The Rocco Effect - Spread Joy

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  ―  Aesop Think of the last time you made someone smile, how did that make you feel?  Pretty good, right?  That's because making others smile is one of the quickest ways for us to feel joy ourselves.  Seek out different ways to make others smile and with it you'll be on track to live a happier life. How I seek to make others smile Jokes, sharing useful knowledge, complements, inviting them to events, asking for their expert advice, talking to them Task For the next week 1. Write out five different ways you could make someone smile. 2. Perform one of these actions each day. 3. Did they smile?  How did it make you feel? 4. If they didn't smile, try to make someone else smile.

Bonus - Saved Quotes

Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious - Thomas Edison  Never discourage anyone who makes progress, no matter how slow - Plato  Busy people need at least 2/3 hobbies as a chance to escape and let the mind rest - Churchill  To a disciple who was forever complaining about others, The Master said, 'If it is peace you want, seek to change yourself, not other people. It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to carpet the whole of the earth' - Anthony De Mello  It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That's not weakness, that's life - Captain Jean-Luc Picard  Tell me and i'll forget, show me and i may remember, involve me and i'll understand - Chinese Proverb Here's a lesson to test your mind's mettle: take part of a week in which you have only the most meager and cheep food, dress scantly in shabby clothes, and ask yourself if this is really the worst that you feared. - Seneca

Rocco Desta Comedy - Bat Soup (A covid-19 poem)

I ordered dinner from Jackie Chan,  Was a special soup made in Wuhan,  He pored it from a rusty can,  And fried it up in a giant pan,  Jackie said it’s time to eat,  But on my plate such weird meat,  Did someone just turn up the heat?  Why was everything going hazy, Acho!  Why's everyone going crazy?  I blanked out and woke up with a sore head,  Naked on a hospital bed,  TV camera on my face,  'is this the end of the human race?'  'is this the end of the human race?'  'is this the end of the human race?'  Aaaggghhhh!!!! .... ..  Bat Soup!

The Rocco Effect - Thanks

The sweetest of all sounds is praise. - Xenophon When training a dog criticism and praise are the keys to growth.  We criticize to reduce the likelihood of actions recurring and praise to enhance the odds.   Humans aren't that different.   Criticism seems to come a lot easier to some people. Even if the result is failure, effort should always be praise (Considering their aim was to get a good result).  Effort is the key to growth.  Praise people when they try to do well and they'll be much more likely to try again, fail or criticize and they'll soon stop trying. Task 1. Praise one person for their effort, each day 2. How did that make you feel? 3. Take note on if they aim to do good again

The Rocco Effect - Thought Exercise

With  our thoughts we make the world . - Buddha Our thoughts determine our reality.  In order to improve our reality, it makes sense to start with our thoughts.   This simple exercise tricks you into believing that you are surrounded by friends/loved ones.  Being surrounded by loved ones is bound to boost your mood.   We also act differently depending on our mood.  Your actions are going to gather better results when your feeling great.  Wishing the best for others and acting in a way that shows this puts the odds more in your favor that you do grow real friendships and get better outcomes. Task For the next week 1. Wish the best for 10 people each day/ 2. Notice how you feel afterwards 3. Take note of how you acted after wishing them the best.

Daily Advice - Memories

Soon all we'll have is our memories.  When you experience something good, take as much in as you can, the sights, smells, sounds ect. Take in more to enhance your future memories of the event.

Daily Advice - Values

Our values are what we find important (Honor, respect, truthfulness, friendship, family ect.).  Our feelings are often attached to these (You'll get angry if others don't follow your values, upset if you see your values dying, happy when you see them growing).  Being aware of what we value allows us to path the way to a happier life.

Daily Advice - Focus on the good

Focus makes things bigger.  It may be an illusion, but we act as if it's true.  When we focus on the bad , notice how quickly everything becomes overwhelming, quickly leading us to anxiety and depression.  Instead of focusing on what's bad, seek out and focus on the good.   As the focus effect is applied the good things will grow and so will the feelings we attach to being surrounded by greatness.

Daily Advice - Stop, before you give up

We often work ourselves past our point of exhaustion.  Leaving the task tired and hating it.  As a result of leaving, with these feelings, we are much less likely to want to return (Why would you seek out those feelings again?).  As a result we should leave before this point, whilst we're still happy and proud of the work we did.  Leaving happy makes it much more likely that you'll want to return.

Bonus - How can I become more confident?

Confidence comes from being repeatedly courageous.  Think back to when you where a child. Reading the alphabet was a challenging task. Yet, by repeat being courageous enough to read out the letters we gained more confidence, until we become fully confident and move onto harder challenges, phonics, words, sentences, paragraphs and books. Remember how much you failed to gain confidence at each stage. Be courageous and willing to fail, learn and grow if you hope to gain future confidence.

The Rocco Effect - Make It Easy

Don't practice what you do not want to become. You don't get to pick to not lay down a habit. You only get to pick which habit you want to lay down. - Chris Williamson (Modern Wisdom) Bad habits are easy to fall into, because short term satisfaction doesn't involve much thought, long term does.  In order to eat healthier, start by not having unhealthy food in your home.  Buy healthy snacks and keep them on show, easy to get to.  If you're peckish the easy option is to eat that healthy snack on show, the difficult option is to get ready, go shopping and buy that unhealthy snack.  By adding friction to the bad habit, you're much less likely to do it. Task 1. What bad habits do you have? 2. How can you add friction to these habits? 3. How can you make good habits easier? 4. Take action

The Rocco Effect - Do Your Best

Successful people don’t fear failure but understand that it’s necessary to learn and grow from. -  Robert Kiyosaki We often let the idea of perfection hold us back from growth.  Trying your best, failing and learning leads to huge leaps in growth, yet doing nothing, leads you nowhere.  Growth gives us meaning, hope and strength.  Focus on these qualities next time your best isn't good enough. Others may mock your best.  Don't let this stop you   You're growing, keep it up and you'll soon be better than all that are to afraid to fail. Confidence comes from repeated courage. We're confident when walking, because we were courageous when we were younger.  We fell over and over again, yet we faced the challenge daily until we could do it without thinking about it.  If you want to be more confident in other fields, build the courage to fail and grow. Our best is all we're capable of.  If you want to be capable of more you need to push yourself to your limits, fail, le

Daily Advice - Your Deathbed

When you are on your deathbed, looking back on your life, what will matter?

Daily Advice - Imagine the worst

Compared to our ancestors, we are all living the life of the gods.  Train yourself to see just how good we have it by imagining just how bad your life could be.

Daily Advice - Five Good Things

Train yourself to see all the good that surrounds you, because when your surrounded by greatness, you can't help but smile.

Daily Advice - Start Rubbish

You want to write a book, but don't know where to start.  Start rubbish.  We can all write a terrible book and since its so easy it will get us started and starting is the hardest part.  Once you have finished your terrible first draft, rewrite a bad draft, then rewrite an okay draft and keep rewriting until you reach a great draft, then publish it. In all aspects of life, if you want to reach greatness, start off rubbish.

Daily Advice - Make good habits easier

Add barriers to your bad habits and remove the barriers towards good habits.  If you want to eat healthier, don't buy unhealthy foods and stock up on healthy snacks.  Leave these snacks next to where you sit and out in the open around your house.  Healthy eating is now as simple as grabbing whatever is next you, unhealthy eating is now harder as you need to leave your house and shop for it, that barrier is often enough to push you towards the easier option.

Daily Advice - Body Poses

To stand up straight with your shoulders back is to accept the terrible responsibility of life, with eyes wide open. It means deciding to voluntarily transform the chaos of potential into the realities of habitable order. It means adopting the burden of self-conscious vulnerability, and accepting the end of the unconscious paradise of childhood, where finitude and mortality are only dimly comprehended. It means willingly undertaking the sacrifices necessary to generate a productive and meaningful reality (it means acting to please God, in the ancient language).  ―  Jordan B. Peterson  ( 12 Rules For Life )

Daily Advice - Keep a Journal

I don’t journal to ‘be productive.’ I don’t do it to find great ideas or to put down prose I can later publish. The pages aren’t intended for anyone but me. It’s the most cost-effective therapy I’ve ever found. – Tim Ferriss Video

The Rocco Effect - Idea Muscle

Everywhere you go, everything you see, every problem you confront, you will instantly be able to react to every situation that stands in your path.  You will be like Spiderman with his spider sense  that instantly reacts and knows what to do even before the problem surfaces. ―  James Altucher  We all face obstacles, daily.  These obstacles can lead to fear, anger and depression if we see no way through them. But how would we feel if we could see, multiple ways through them?  A lot better, right?  Just like a swimmer isn't afraid of water, a You can train to not be afraid of obstacles   So, how do we train? By writing out 10 ideas (solutions to problems), each day.  For example - How can I improve this room?  How can i make someone smile today? What designs could I sell?  By pushing yourself to think of 10 you train yourself to look for solutions that aren't obvious.  Which prepares you to find better solutions when you are faced with real problems.  Being prepared keeps us cal
