The Rocco Effect - What If Game

How to Break a Bad Habit Inversion of the 1st law (Cue): Make it invisible. Inversion of the 2nd law (Craving): Make it unattractive. Inversion of the 3rd law (Response): Make it difficult. Inversion of the 4th law (Reward): Make it unsatisfying. ― James Clear

The Rocco Effect - What If Game

We choose the easier option, most of the time.  Do you take the long path, or take the easy route and cut through the grass?  If a bad habit is the easy option (Snacks on your living room table, cold beers in the fridge, phone next to your bed ect.) your much more likely to choose that than the alternative (eating healthy, drinking water, going to sleep).

The opposite is also true.  If you want to eat better, don't have unhealthy snacks in your house and have healthy snacks at an easy to reach place.  Are you more likely to eat healthy, or trek to the store and buy a small, unhealthy snack?   Ask yourself 'What if' and add friction to your bad habits and reduce friction towards good habits.

Task

1. What bad habits do you have?
2. What good habits can you replace them with?
3. What can you do to add friction to the bad habits?
4. How can you reduce friction towards the good habits?

5. What would your life look like after one year of bad habits, compared to one year of good habits?

Bonus - Everything is on loan

Everything is on loan.   Our possessions, our friends, family, even our own lives.  If we're lucky the loan is repaid after we die, but we've all had loans retuned before we where ready or worse, before we were aware it was a loan. Whenever you are in a state of truly loving life remind yourself 'This is all on loan.'  Be grateful and take in all you can, cause one day, memories is all you'll have left.

The Rocco Effect - Values

It's not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. ― Roy Disney Values are the reason why somethings make us happy and others make us sad. If you value the truth, even a white lie, in the hopes to make you feel better, would hurt you. If you value family, only for them to pick friends over you, that would hurt. Often we feel this way, without knowing why and this leads to a lot of stress and questioning ourselves.  Once you know your values, knowing what choice to make is a lot easier. You choose whatever choice is closest to your highest values. Even in failure, you can rest happy, knowing that you made the right choice. Comic Video Reading Task 1.
