The Rocco Effect - Death (You)

“It is not death that a man should fear, but rather he should fear never beginning to live.” —Marcus Aurelius

The Rocco Effect - Death (You)

The biggest regret one can face is regretting their life.  We don't want to look back on our lives only to see disappointment and missed opportunities. If we reflect on our pasts we can all find some regrets, but would they have happened if we had reflected on our deaths?  Maybe the same actions would have took place, but with the new outlook we would see them as a growth opportunity, rather than a regret.  Maybe we'd stick to our values and walk away proud.  If we remind ourselves that one day we will be looking back on everything, with no more time to make amends, we will be much more satisfied with the choices we make.

Task

1. Reflect on your past regrets.  What would you say in order to prevent them?  If you wouldn't prevent them are they really regrets?

2. Reflect on your death.  Did you live a good life?  Do you need to make amends?

Bonus - Everything is on loan

Everything is on loan.   Our possessions, our friends, family, even our own lives.  If we're lucky the loan is repaid after we die, but we've all had loans retuned before we where ready or worse, before we were aware it was a loan. Whenever you are in a state of truly loving life remind yourself 'This is all on loan.'  Be grateful and take in all you can, cause one day, memories is all you'll have left.
